One of several variants of reaching the highest peak of the Żywiecki Beskids and the entire Polish Beskids - Babia Góra (Diablak). On the route there is a PTTK Markowe Szczawiny shelter, where you can rest and eat. The route - especially in the final section - leads through extremely picturesque areas . Babia Góra is a wonderful viewing point from which you can see the peaks of the Beskids: Żywiecki, Śląski, Mały, Makowski, Wyspowy, Gorce, Tatra Mountains, and on the Slovak side: the Chočański Mountains, Magura Orawska, Low Tatras, Mała and Wielka Fatra. Trail color: blue – black – red
Walking time: 3 h 50 min (one way)
The highest point: Babia Góra (Diablak) 1725 m above sea level.
We start our hike to the Queen of the Beskids at Pokoje Gościnne Mosorny Groń, located in Zawoja Policzne. Initially, we turn right following the blue signs, and then turn left from the main road. We reach the border of the Babiogórski National Park and continue along the same trail. The route leads through the forest, so there are no views at this stage. After 40 minutes, we pass the crossroads at Rybny Potok and continue following the blue signs. After another 40 minutes, we meet the next trail junction - Sulowa Cyrhla, and here we change the trail color to black. On the way, we pass the beautiful Kaczmarczykowa Glade, and then we reach the trail junction at Kolista Polana (55 min). We continue along the black trail, which runs together with the green trail in this section, and after 5 minutes we reach the PTTK Markowe Szczawiny shelter. At the shelter we change the color of the trail to red, which takes us to the Brona Pass in 30 minutes. There are beautiful views on the pass. From the Brona Pass, we only have the final approach, lasting about 1 hour, to the top of Babia Góra, to which red, green and blue signs lead together.
Returning by the same route takes 2 hours 50 minutes. It is possible to choose a different return route, but this always means ending the trip in a different place than the beginning of the trip. While on the Brona Pass, it is worth visiting the peak of Mała Babia Góra (Cyl), which offers beautiful views, and which is much less popular than the neighboring Diablak. Climbing to the top of Mała Babia Góra takes only an additional 25 minutes (descent 10 minutes).
